Car rams into ADC’s car,5 injured
Five persons,including two women,were injured in a head on collision between two cars in Sector 8,HUDA Colony,Ambala City,on Friday. The accident occurred when an Hyundai i10 with five occupants,coming from the wrong side,rammed into the car of Additional Deputy Commissioner Renu Phulia. The gunman and driver of the government vehicle were injured while the ADC escaped unhurt. Three of the five occupants of the other car were injured who were identified as Amarjeet Singh,Maya Devi and Nachhtro. They were rushed to the hospital. Police reached the spot and started investigation.

Shashank Anand is new Ambala SP
Shashank Anand took charge as the new superintendent of police,Ambala district,on Friday. Anand was earlier posted as Additional SP and DCP Faridabad. To ensure fair and free panchayat elections scheduled to be held in June and constitute a corruption-free police administration are his priorities besides maintaining law and order in the city. He said citizens with grievances could meet him any time. His predecessor Bharti Arora has proceeded on leave.

Selja visits dropsy-affected village
Union Minister of Tourism and Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja visited the dropsy affected village of Samalheri and hospitals where patients have been admitted since Thursday evening. The villagers complained that both the administration and health department had not taken any preventive measure to control the spread of the disease which remained undiagnosed for almost a fortnight till it claimed two lives of two girls,Priyanka and Deeksha. Selja assured them that she would take up the matter with the health department authorities. She said that if needed a team of doctors would be sent to the village for detecting the cause of disease. She was accompanied by former zila parishad chairman Brahmpal Rana and other Congress leaders.

Derailment of shunting engine delays Shatabdi
The Kalka-Delhi Shatabdi Express was delayed for nearly 15 minutes due to derailment of a shunting engine on Friday. The train remained stalled outside the signal area till the Kalka-Ambala line was cleared.

Two years after incident,accused arrested
Almost two years after the incident the UT Police arrested three accused on Thursday,for allegedly attacking the Industrial Area police station after a horse cart driver committed suicide in July 2008. SHO inspector Dilsher Singh said Lalan and Parmod,residents of Colony no 4,and Dr Vikram,a resident of Sector 29,were arrested late on Thursday night after police conducted raids at their residences. The accused were a part of a mob that pelted stones at the police station on July 29,2008,after horse cart driver Inderjit Singh,a resident of Colony no 4,committed suicide at the police station.

Promotional course of UT police,second batch graduates
The passing out parade of the second batch of promotional courses of the Chandigarh Police was held at police lines in Sector 26 on Friday. Inspector General of Police Pardeep Kumar Srivastava was the chief guest on the occasion. The promotional courses,including the upper school and intermediate course,began on March 13 this year. A total number of 113 police officials,including 64 assistant sub-inspectors and 49 head constables,joined the two-and-a-half month courses.
