Sirsa police prevent child marriage
Timely action by the Sirsa district police prevented a child marriage at Badaguda village on Tuesday,forcing the families of the prospective groom and the bride to postpone the wedding till both attain 18 years of age. Acting on a tip-off that a minor girl,Baljinder Kaur of Chakeria village,was being married off to Deep Singh of Biruwala Gudda village,also a minor,Superintendent of Police Satinder Kumar Gupta directed District Child Marriage Prevention Officer Sadhna Mittal and the Badaguda police station in-charge to look into the matter. They demanded proof of the girl being an adult,which her family failed to provide. On being warned of the consequences of performing a child marriage,the family members submitted a written assurance that the girl would be married off only after she turns 18.
5,000 deodar saplings planted in Shimla in 09: Govt
To revive the depleting deodar forests of Shimla,the Himachal Pradesh government planted 5,009 deodar saplings in the state capital during the monsoon in 2009. In a reply to a question asked by Shimla MLA Suresh Bhardwaj,the government said of the 5,009 saplings planted,62 per cent survived.
NABARD sanctioned Rs 454 crore in 2009-10 for Himachal
The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has assured the Himachal Pradesh government of extending funding for new rural infrastructure and livelihood projects based on farm economy to boost the states growth and development. Chief General Manager S T Raghuraman said on Tuesday the bank sanctioned Rs 454.13 crore for development projects in 2009-10. These included Rs 350.15 crore for road and bridges,Rs 43.82 crore for minor irrigation,Rs 58.39 crore for drinking water and Rs 1.77 crore for flood protection projects,of which Rs 300 crore had already been disbursed,he added. Towards production credit,for support to crop loans,the bank sanctioned Rs 120 crore,besides a subsidy of Rs. 289.517 lakh for 13 projects under the Agriculture Marketing Infrastructure Scheme.
Devi Lal remembered
Rich tributes were paid to late deputy prime minister Devi Lal on his ninth death anniversary at a function held in New Delhi on Tuesday. An all-religion prayer meeting was also organised on the occasion. Prominent among those present at the Sangharsh Sthal were Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Prakash Chautala,Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh.
