Two new swine flu patients in city
Chandigarh:
Two fresh cases of swine flu have been reported from the city today. These include a two-and-a-half year-old boy child from Ambala and a 20-year-old woman from Hoshiarpur in Punjab. Both have been quarantined and have been put on Tamiflu,said doctors. Meanwhile,the condition of two-month-old infant admitted at Mukat Hospital is stable,said officials.

Four dead,eight injured in road accident
Ropar:
Four persons died and eight others were injured when a Tata Sumo rammed into a truck near Toansa village on the Ropar-Nawanshahr road,about 10 kilometres from Ropar,this morning.

The accident took place around 6.30 am,when a dozen persons mostly from village Baghrol in Sangrur district were returning after visiting Paniyali village in Nawanshahr district.

As a thick blanket of fog that that engulfed the region,the driver of Tata Sumo driver failed to notice the stationary truck and rammed into it. The injured were rushed to the Ropar civil hospital from where they were referred to PGI in Chandigarh. The dead have been identified as Sadhu Singh,Jagir Kaur,Amarjit Kaur,all residents of Baghrol village in Sangrur district,and Jaspal Kaur of Chupki in Patiala district.A case under sections 279,337,304-A of the IPC has been registered against the truck driver.

Elderly woman sets herself ablaze,dies
Ambala:
An octogenarian woman living with her son in the housing board colony in Ambala allegedly committed suicide on Sunday. The deceased — Ram Piari — went to the bathroom,soaked herself in kerosene oil and set herself ablaze. She died on the spot. Her son is visually handicapped and is serving in a government office. The police have registered a case.

Sewerage lines being re-laid in Panchkula
PANCHKULA:
In a bid to provide relief to the residents from clogged roads during the monsoons,the administration is working to improve the drainage system during winter for which the work is under way in different sectors of the city.

Fresh drains are being laid in Sector 4 and on the dividing road of Sector 15-16 and efforts are being made to improve the sewage system of the city. Informing about the development,OP Sihag,executive officer,Municipal Committee,said,“There are some sectors in the city that face this problem every monsoons. Work is going on in Sector 4 for quite sometime now. Since these required a new drainage system,work is under way. In case there are more problem areas,we will look into the same.” Meanwhile,residents seem to be happy with the turn of events. “Even if it rains a little,the entire road gets full of water and the sewage overflows. With the dirty water flowing on the roads,it is a health hazard as well. The new drains may solve the problem,” said KK Singh,a resident.
