Kurali resident dies in mishap
A resident of Kurali Satnam Singh was killed in a road mishap in Kurali late last evening,the police said here on Sunday. Singh was riding a motorcycle when another motorcycle hit him near HDFC Bank around 9.30 pm,leaving him seriously injured. He was rushed to PGIMER where he succumbed to injuries. The police have booked the motorcycle driver for causing death by rash and negligent driving.
Woman doctor gets threatening letter
A woman doctor of Phase IX here has got a threatening letter from an unidentified person,the police said on Sunday. Dr Deepak Goel has reported to the police that his wife Dr Sunita Goel has got a letter,in which the sender has threatened her with dire consequences,following which she and entire family was in panic. The police have registered a case under Sections 387 and 506 of the IPC against unidentified person and begun investigation.
Ludhiana resident held with gun
A resident of Ludhiana Anshu was arrested with a .12 bore gun,of which he failed to show any valid licence on the spot,the police said here on Sunday. A police party apprehended the accused on the basis of suspicion in Industrial Area,Phase IX,here,and on checking a .12 bore gun with its barrel cut short to hide the weapon was recovered. The police have booked the accused under Sections 25,54 and 59 of the Arms Act and begun investigations.
Mohali resident held with stolen car
A resident of Mohali,Sunil Sharma,was arrested with an allegedly stolen car,the police said here today. On a tip-off,a police check-post intercepted the accused in a red colour Tata Indica car on Chandigarh-Ludhiana National Highway-95 near Gharuan village when he was on his way towards Ludhiana to sell the car,the police said,adding that the accused was allegedly involved in vehicle and house thefts and allegedly sale the stolen vehicles by putting fake registration numbers on them. A case under relevant Sections of the IPC has been registered and further interrogation of the accused was begun to ascertain his modus-operandi and involvement in other cases of thefts,if any.
Cong celebrates 125th anniversary of INC
The Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Indian National Congess by paying homage to Pandit Motilal Nehru,one of the former leader of the INC. While addressing hundreds of workers,Union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal highlighted the history of the Indian National Congress. He said women reservation and right to education to every child are highlights of the UPA government. India has come up as a strong economical and powerful country in the world,he said.
Workshop to frame question papers ends
A three-day workshop to frame sample and question papers on CCE pattern concluded at DAV-15 on Sunday. The valedictory ceremony was performed by Mohan Lal,secretary in DAV College Managing Committee. Certificates were awarded to delegates and they narrated their experiences about the workshop. Mohan Lal said in this age of knowledge explosion,role of teachers was very important. Dr Rakesh Sachdeva said framing of question papers was of utmost importance to determine the future of education at elementary level.
Bhavan Vidyalaya walks away with Surya World Champ title
Winners of the Surya World Champs 2009 were honoured at a felicitation ceremony held near Mohali on Sunday. Chief guest Dr Pawan Kapur,Director,Central Scientific Instruments Organization,Chandigarh,honoured Bhavan Vidyalaya,Sector 27,Chandigarh,Apollo Public School in Patiala and MRA Senior Secondary Model School,Sector 27,Chandigarh,with first,second and third prize,respectively. Winning students from the schools participated in this ceremony and took away cash prizes and trophies. Cash prizes of Rs 2,000,Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000,respectively,were given to the first three performers from each school apart from certificates and trophies to the winners. ens
