Fire at factory godown in Industrial Area,goods worth lakhs destroyed
PANCHKULA: Goods worth lakhs were gutted in a fire at the godown of R K Industries in the Industrial Area,Phase II,early on Wednesday morning. The company deals with plywood and also produces adhesive material. The fire was noticed by workers staying in the area around 5.30 am. Two fire tenders were pressed into service who controlled the fire in an hour. According to owner,Anand Gupta,two computers and one fridge were burnt in the fire along with some cash stored in the office.
Sanawar school to hold three-day peace conference from April 21
CHANDIGARH: The Lawrence School,Sanawar,is organizing the Young Round Square Regional (Asia and Gulf Region) Conference from April 21-23,2010 on the theme peace. Illegal liquor seized
PANCHKULA: Over 175 cases and 2,100 bottles of illegal IMFL liquor were seized by the police near the Morni road T-point on Wednesday. A case has been registered against two accused. Officials said after receiving a tip-off about liquor being smuggled to Gujarat,they had set up a checkpost. A truck was intercepted by ASI Rishipal of the CIA staff. Over 175 cases of illicit liquor was found in the truck. The police arrested driver Surinder Singh,a resident of Panipat. Rajkumar,a resident of Panipat who was accompanying the driver,was also arrested. The two were produced before the District Excise and Taxation Commissioner,Panchkula,on Wednesday. The goods seized have been valued at Rs 2 lakh.
Four women held for pickpocketing
PANCHKULA: With the arrest of four women,the police claimed to have busted an alleged gang of pickpockets on Wednesday. Sanjay Kumar had alleged that a woman had stolen his wallet while he was travelling in the local bus from the Housing Board Chowk. Acting on the complaint,the police nabbed the women. An amount of Rs 800 was recovered from accused Sahiba,Priya,Reshma and Asha,who have been sent to judicial custody. These women hail from Maharashtra and are presently residing in Ambala Cantonment.
Four-day science camp in PU from May 20
CHANDIGARH: The Department of Science and Technology is going to organise a camp under the INSPIRE scheme in Panjab University campus from May 20 -24,2010. Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is one of the innovative programmes by the Department of Science and technology to attract talent in science. A student whose minimum percentage scores in Class X is above the decided cut off or fall among top 1 per cent of the toppers in a Board Examination are eligible to apply for this camp. Omaxe nets Rs 38.85 crore through auction
PATIALA: Omaxe,a real estate developer,through a public auction of shops and SCOs has netted a revenue of Rs 38.85 crore. This project was jointly promoted by Patiala Urban Planning and Development Authority and Omaxe city. In todays auction,the company auctioned 60 shops of 35 square yards to 200 square yards .
Puri is chief consultant at Aggarsain Hospital
PATIALA: Ajit S Puri has taken over as the chief consultant (medicine) in the Aggarsain Hospital in Patiala. He was earlier working with the Apex Hospital at Varanasi. Puri has 35 years of experience in the field of clinical medicine.
Beauty parlour owners duped
Ambala: Scores of beauty parlour owners from Ambala and other towns in the district were allegedly cheated by one Mohit Sharman who had invited them to attend a seminar on the latest facial techniques. Each of them claimed to have paid Rs 600 for attending the seminar. The parlour owners complained to the Maheshnagar police that no seminar was organised,instead fake certificates were handed over to them. They protested and demanded that the money be returned.
Centre nod to 93 posts in mental health institute
Chandigarh: The Centre has given its approval to create 93 posts at the Mental Health Institute,which is being set up under the aegis of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32. This has been conveyed to the Administration by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday. The Ministry of Finance has been sent a proposal for the creation of in all 174 posts of Class A,B and C employees which would be required for the setting up of the new institute.
