IMA condemns doctors’ arrest

Indian Medical Association (IMA),Chandigarh,condemned the arrest of the doctors,saying it amounted to contempt of the Supreme Court. A statement issued by IMA’s Chandigarh State Branch President Dr Ramneek Singh Bedi said that as per the Supreme Court judgment,no case was to be booked against a doctor without expert opinion from a medical board. ”In this case,there was no medical negligence. We demand that the police authorities immediately withdraw Section 304-A against the two doctors and take appropriate action against the people who tried to threaten the doctors. In future,the authorities must ensure that no such case is registered against any doctor without following the SC instructions. Unlike in neighbouring States,Chandigarh has no law for doctors’ protection against violence. Such a mechanism should immediately be implemented in Chandigarh as well.”
