The Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) at AIIMS, which had earlier decided not to join the strike keeping in view patient care, announced the withdrawal of all non-essential services from Monday noon till Tuesday 6 am.
Doctors’ strike Today India LIVE News Updates: The 31 representatives made the formal announcement at NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, where the death of a patient followed by an attack on two junior attacks triggered the week-long strike.
In a statement, the AIIMS RDA said: “It has been decided to resort to a protest wherein patient-care services will not be hampered to ensure that the backlog of patients, including patients affected by the strike, is addressed appropriately.”
Referring to the attack on two doctors at the NRS hospital in Kolkata last week, which triggered the latest crisis, the IMA said it “condemns the violence” and “demands exemplary action by the state government”.
The five-member committee comprises Dr Suhas Pingle (IMA state secretary), Dr Chandrakanth Mhaske (dean in Government Medical College, Nanded), Dr Ravi Wankhedkar (former IMA president), Dr Ashok Adhao (former IMA president) and Dr Hozie Kapadia (IMA state secretary).
