Who am I? What am I? ‘Day I met the Prince’ creates magic with simplicity to reach out to those grappling with the crisis of identity
We live in a world of contradictions, confusion, searching for directions, finding ways to be who we are not. Jamini Pathak,Nayantara Roy,Asif Ali Beg set the stage to create a gentle pause and in a simple, gentle and innocent way let go of all the issues children are grappling with today — “towards the influence of the west or finding one’s roots,” Nayantara Rao talks about Day I Met the Prince, adapted from Kuo Pao Kun’s production, which was of course inspired by Antoine de Saint Exupéry’s Little Prince. The play was adapted for the Indian context and city children, with magic, music and movement weaving through the story line and addressing the PAN Indian audience and scenario,as opposed to the exotic India. “It’s interactive, bridges the gap between adults and children to reach out to children through the age-old technique of professional actors stepping into children’s shoes and without message mongering and preaching, telling the story simply,” smiles Jamini, talking about the influences of the Interned, media and NRI culture on children.
