HP bypolls: EC issues model code guidelines for govt,parties

The states Chief Electoral Officer,Narinder Chauhan,issued detailed guidelines for government and political parties,on Wednesday,as a sequel to the Election Commissions notification for two Vidhan Sabha by-elections for Nalagarh and Renuka constituency,slated for November 30.

The states Chief Electoral Officer (CEO),Narinder Chauhan,issued detailed guidelines for government and political parties,on Wednesday,as a sequel to the Election Commissions notification for two Vidhan Sabha by-elections for Nalagarh and Renuka constituency,slated for November 30.

Chauhan said Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Urban) of Nalagarh would be Returning Officer for by-election to Nalagarh and SDM (Urban) Nahan would be at Renuka. Chauhan said that a Control Room had been set up in the office of CEO.

According to notification regarding model code of conduct all ministers have been directed to not combine their official visit with their campaign work and will not make use of official machinery or personnel during electioneering.

The orders said: The state government transport including official aircrafts,vehicles,machinery and personnel shall not be used for furtherance of the interest of the party in power. Public places for holding of election meetings and use of helipads for air-flights in connection with elections shall not be monopolised.

Issuing of advertisement at the cost of public exchequer in the newspapers and other media and the misuse of official mass media during the election period for partisan coverage of political news and publicity should be scrupulously avoided,reads the order.
