Ahead of the Diwali festival,Chandigarh hospitals are bracing up for any kind of emergencies. Authorities in the city hospitals anticipate a large number of fire crackers injuries,especially to children these few days.
The regions premier health institute the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has geared up its Advanced Eye Centre to meet emergencies and provide immediate treatment. We anticipate a large number of emergency cases during the Diwali,hence the the Advanced Eye Centre has put doctors on special emergency duty round the clock from the morning of November 4 till the morning of November 7, PGIMER spokesperson Manju Wadwalkar said. The general public is advised to bring all eye emergencies to the Advanced Eye Centre,PGI,Chandigarh.
Last year,according to data available,over 60 people,mostly children between the age group of 10 to 14,received eye injuries due to crackers. There were instances of onlookers and passersby being injured critically. In fact,in the other two city hospitals,including the Government Medical College and Hospital,32,and Government Medical Super Specialty Hospital Sector 16 have also kept its doctors on alert.
Eye specialists will be available round the clock, said Dr Vipin Koushal,medical superintendent of GMCH.
Doctors have also advised parents to watch their children while they burst crackers. To make this festival a happy occasion,children should burst crackers under the supervision of their parents, said a doctor at the PGI.
