Himal claims title for third time in a row

Himal Gusian continued to impress as he added two more points to his kitty to emerge as the champion in the 20th Chandigarh Chess Championship held at St Xavier's Senior Secondary School,Sector 44 on Sunday.

Himal Gusian continued to impress as he added two more points to his kitty to emerge as the champion in the 20th Chandigarh Chess Championship held at St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School,Sector 44 on Sunday. In the process,Himal Gusain picked up the title three times in a row.

Himal,a student of St Xavier’s School,Sector 44,who was sharing the lead with Naveen Bansal on the penultimate day,top scored with 7.5 points while Ameek Malhotra overhauled Naveen to claim the second spot with 6.5 points. Naveen had to satisfy himself with the third position with six points. Sanjeev Biswas and Baijnath Prasad were sharing the joint spot with Naveen.

Meanwhile,Abhinandan Vohra,Anmol Razdan,Jatinder Joshi,Sunil Bansal,Nitin and Manu Aggarwal claimed 5.5 points each while Anil Raina,Tejas Nagpal,Ashwani Nirankari,Pradeep Singh Negi,Satpal,Harinder Pal Singh and Arunima Goyal shared five points each. Those who claimed 4.5 points were Vipnesh Bhardwaj,Karan Bhatti,Devender Rawat,Simranjeet Kaur,Swapan and Anubhav Tuknayat while Sameer Malhotra,Sachleen Singh,Harish Chand,Vipan Negi,Tarundeep Singh,Pallak,Karan Saini,Nivedan Bhardwaj,Jaskeerat Ahluwalia,Rahul Arora,Tarini Goyal,Kewaljeet,Snehlata and Naresh Kumar were in tow with four points. Rakesh Kochar,Shweta,Rishab Jain and Vinod had 3.5 points each while Mayank Kaura,Adeesh Sood,PP Sood,Pranjal Kaura,Virendar Singh,Amartya Bhattacharjee,Ishu Tiwari and Suryajeet Saini claimed three points each. Jatinder Padhey and Shivika had 2.5 points while Nishant Seth,Gitin Oberoi,Anmol,Lokesh Tandon,Ankur Sharma and Aseem claimed two points. Devansh Soni,Zoheb Bedi,Harpal Singh Narang and Harshpreet Singh won solitary points each.

Himal,Ameek,Naveen and Sanjeev Biswas will represent Chandigarh in the forthcoming National-B Chess Championship to be held at Kolkata from August 11.
