Each night,for five years,Manit Dani sat in his room with his soulmate his guitar and practised for hours on end,pausing only to look up at the stars outside. Some of his compositions turned out to be melodious,while the others could shatter eardrums. I wanted to know the guitar inside out,so I practised hard, says this 23-year-old engineering student of SUSCET Tangori. His effort seems to have paid off Danis works on YouTube and Facebook have won him more than 19 lakh viewers. His YouTube page has 4,214 subscribers and 3,000 fans have befriended him on Facebook for them,he has uploaded his 203rd guitar lesson.
A purist might brush Dani off as a YouTube phenomenon,but the guitarist isnt bothered. He recently uploaded lessons on how to strum Haal-E-Dil and Bhaag DK Bose,from Delhi Belly. I started uploading my guitar lessons in 2007. I wanted budding guitarists to be able to learn the guitar the easy way, says Dani. His lessons are complete with chord diagrams,scales,video tutors,tips,tricks and song chords and are offered for free.
Browse through the 1,909,685 comments on his YouTube page,and you find that Danis fan base stretches over Pakistan,Dubai,Canada,Nepal and the US. His two videos a rendition of Kailash Khers Saiyaan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khans Dil to Bachcha Hai Ji have cemented his reputation.
Reverbnation,an online forum,has released Danis first song,Dil Ne Kaha digitally,and the response has encouraged him to pen more scores. His friend Eshan Sharma,one of the contestants of Indian Idol 4,is the voice behind the songs. The two are also working on their new album.
