A new boutique hotel redefines the citys skyline
Every night, the traffic en route the main road dividing the two phases of Chandigarhs Industrial Area (the Tribune Chowk road),slows down at one particular spot. The commuters cant help but look up at the changing palette of colours flashing on a new building on the road its the new boutique hotel in the business-cum-industrial area Phase II of Chandigarh,The Altius.
A new addition to the citys skyline,The Altius is located on the main road, making it extremely accessible. It can also boast of having the highest rooftop restaurant in the city. The seventh floor houses a British-themed pub and bar,10 Downing Street, and boasts of the longest bar in town. Mahogany panels,stained-glass doors and separations, crystal chandeliers, and classic bottle green and maroon leather upholstered armchairs and sofas, they stay true to the theme.
The credit for the hotel interiors goes to its director Ginny Chawlas mother,Ravi Chawla and city-based interior designers,Annu Bains and Rajiv Mahajan. If anything can make or break a hotel,it is its food and service. Tiny but important details like a valet service,or fresh napkins and cold water on the table need to be addressed. But these are blanks that are filled by Canada-returned chef Manmeet Singhs signature dishes.
Once at The Altius, skip the continental,Thai and Chinese cuisine. We suggest that one should order Indian at the hotels fine dining restaurant, for thats the USP. From the aromas of a perfectly marinated dum cooked Atta Chicken, earthy flavours of Dal Makhani, fresh herbs on chicken starters to soft paranthas, and the in-house kulfi for the finale,Singh showcases his skills.
Meanwhile,at night, the hotel comes alive with fire jugglers and a high-spirited bar. The coloured fountains and play of red, blue and orange lights on the hotels facade are the showstoppers.
