HC seeks reply on plying of sleeper buses

The Punjab and Haryana High Court,on Thursday,had directed Punjab Transport Department authorities to clarify the action that could be initiated against the plying of sleeper buses as the Motor Vehicle Act did not provide for the registration of such buses. The directions were passed on a PIL filed by Ramesh Sharma. An affidavit #filed by Harjeet Singh,Punjab State Transport Commissioner,stated that no tourist sleeper coaches had been registered in Punjab as neither the Motor Vehicle Act,nor the Punjab Motor Vehicle Act had any provision for such buses.

The transport department had stated that 24 sleeper buses were found plying illegally and action was taken.
