The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notices to Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) on a petition accusing the Commission of discrimination.
The petitioner,Rouble Sharma, has alleged that the commission was discriminating between two sets of candidates for the Punjab State Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination,2009. The petitioner contended that on one hand candidates not having bachelors degree were allowed to appear in the examination, subject to the deposition of proof of their passing the degree later on.
On the other hand, candidates like the petitioner, who were to appear in the Punjabi examination at the matriculation level at the time of deposition of forms, but have passed the examination before the preliminary examinations, have been disqualified.
Sharma added that he was disqualified for the Punjab Civil Services main examination on the ground that he did not possess Punjabi at the time of submission of the forms.
He added the commission on November 26,2009,had invited applications for 143 posts in different departments to be filled up through the state civil services combined examination.
The petitioner claimed he had already appeared in additional paper of Punjabi at the matriculation level from the Punjab School Education Board and was even declared successful; in June 2010. The case will now come up for resumed hearing on July 7.
