HAS officer commits suicide

Gunu Ram Bharti,55,a senior HAS officer currently posted as Joint Secretary Sainik Welfare at the state secretariat,committed suicide at his residence near Chhota Shimla.

Gunu Ram Bharti,55,a senior HAS officer currently posted as Joint Secretary Sainik Welfare at the state secretariat,on Thursday committed suicide at his residence near Chhota Shimla early in the morning.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) SR Mardi said the officer,who was alone at his house,has left a long suicide note giving detailed reasons for taking the extreme step.

The police said Bharti had an extra-material affair with a female health worker,which he had developed during his posting as SDM at Dodra Kwar a few years ago. Later,he had also served as Resident Commissioner,Pangi during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

His affair had become a cause of tension in his family,the police said. Prime facie,the police have found that the officer had consumed poison (powder of celphos) before he got ready for work. He is survived by his wife Janki Devi and children,including two daughters.
