As many as 17 regional winners who were chosen as finalists across India will now compete with each other in the Grand Finale of Castrol Golden Spanner Awards at the Circus Ground,Sector 17,Chandigarh,on Thursday,June 25. Finalists will be evaluated on practical,diagnostic and repair skills on actual cars,besides theoretical knowledge. The winner will take home grand prize of a miniature car made of gold. The finals were held in 17 cities in which 15,000 mechanics took part. The 17 finalists who have qualified for the Grand Finale have won a Gold Spanner along with an accident insurance policy worth Rs 2 lakh in their respective cities. The Castrol Golden Spanner Awards were instituted in 2008 with the objective of recognising and honouring the most skilled and knowledgeable ‘Ustaad’ car mechanics across India. Over 5000 mechanics participated in the competition last year and more than 200 mechanics emerged as members of this elite ‘Ustaad’ group in 2008.
