Gold chain snatchers caught by public

Two snatchers were nabbed by the public on Monday when they almost sped away after snatching a gold chain from a local resident. Rajbir Kaur of Sector 23B,Chandigarh,was heading home with her husband on a two-wheeler when two motorcycle-borne youths snatched the gold chain she was wearing. The incident took place at 9:15 pm near Kisan Bhawan Chowk,Chandigarh.

Kaur,a housewife,immediately raised an alarm. Her husband chased the snatchers on his two-wheeler and they were unable to escape due to heavy traffic. The two were nabbed and beaten up by the public. The duo,Tinku (26) and Dhiraj (22),residents of Ram Darbar,were later handed over to the police. A case of theft and furtherance of common intention has been registered by the cops. Their motorcycle (CH-01-AG-8565) too has been taken into possession by the police.

Sub-Inspector Amarjit Singh of the Sector 36 police station said,“The two couldn’t escape due to heavy traffic and were caught hold of by the public. The police were informed and we reached the spot without delay.” The two arrested men have no case registered against them in the past. Both are daily wagers.
