The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) on Sunday announced its support to the tree plantation drive initiated by the Mohali Municipal Council Senior Vice-President Harman Preet Singh Prince in Mohali.
Announcing this,the GMADA Chief Administrator (CA) Vivek Partap Singh declared planting and safeguarding of at least 5,000 saplings across the city to boost up the drive aimed at improving the depleting green cover of Mohali.
Singh made this announcement at a special function organised by Prince to plant 1,000 more saplings as part of his commitment to plant 20,000 saplings under the drive in Phase 3B1 here.
Flanked by Prince,the GMADA CA planted and watered various types of shady,ornamental,fruit and herbal trees on the roadsides,vacant places,residential,commercial and green belt areas in Phase 3B1.
Lauding the Green Initiative,Singh assured all possible help to the cause of Mohalis declining green cover by planting and motivating others to plant more trees to cover up for the huge loss of full-grown trees which were axed for the sake of Mohalis development in the recent past.
Prince vowed to continue the drive with full viguor and achieve the target of planting 20,000 trees within the next fortnight.
Senior Citizens Association president SS Jaspal also extended support to the drive.
Meanwhile,Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand launched the tree plantation drive initiated by the Swaraj division of the Mahindra and Mahindra by planting a sapling at 220-KV power supply grid station in Industrial Area,Phase VII here this morning. The company has decided to plant 15,000 saplings in different parts of Mohali under the drive.
