Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha were rounded off by the police as they were beginning to hold a protest related to the ongoing violence in Assam on Sunday.

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) were rounded off by the police as they were beginning to hold a protest related to the ongoing violence in Assam on Sunday. The youth wing of the BJP was to hold the protest against illegal immigration at the Sector 17-18-21-22 roundabout.

The members of the BJP youth wing, while expressing solidarity with the people of the Northeastern states, said that there is a need to check illegal immigration in the country. At the outset of the protest the youth were rounded up and later let off. The police kept rounding up the protestors as they arrived at the venue. They were taken to the Sector 17 police station.

President of the city unit of BJYM,Maheshinder Singh Sidhu, said that there is large-scale illegal migration of Bangladeshis in India. He said security of the country is in grave danger, the social fabric is shattering in the Northeast, and the Congress-led UPA Government is not driving the illegal immigrants out. He said that the government was afraid of taking any action against these illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, former MP Satya Pal Jain who is the National Incharge of the Legal and Legislative Business Cell of the BJP,on Sunday met students from the Northeast studying in Chandigarh, and assured them that the city’s residents were with them and that they will ensure their full security. He was accompanied by councillor Davesh Moudgil.

Jain said that people from any state have a right to visit and reside in any part of the country. He said that some people are trying to create a wedge between people from different states of the country on a regional and communal basis.

He also appealed to the students and other residents from Northeastern states not to listen to these rumours and hoped that not even a single person will leave Chandigarh out of fear.
