Fresh Start

As Tiwari was getting used to living out of the suitcase,he decided to try out a new line of work. “I had a chance meeting with my paternal uncle,Vivek Agnihotri who has made films like Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal. I had done dramatics and theatre in college and he encouraged me to try out the field once again,” he says. Convinced,Tiwari landed in Mumbai in 2006 to test the waters. It was difficult but he was willing to learn,joining Kishore Namit Kapoor’s acting classes (where he won a gold medal) and doing a couple of advertisements too. “I loved what I saw,what I did,and realised this was my calling. I worked on every area of filmmaking till naturally gravitating towards acting.”

Tiwari claims to have landed a role in I Hate Luv Storys quite by chance. “I had posted my pictures on Facebook and someone noticed them and advised me to go for the IHLS auditions. Three rounds later,I was selected,” he says. In the movie,he plays the role of an assistant director along with Imran Khan. “I am Imran’s senior in it…a good,supportive one,” he chuckles. Ona sombre note he adds,“I have lasted through tough years before I landed this film,and I will make through this too,” he adds.

Working with a completely young cast and crew has been a satisfactory experience. “It is kind of uptight when one is working with seniors. But here,it was like the world is flat,and there was so much energy,so much space to experiment. It brought down a lot of walls. Sonam Kapoor would share her lunch with us,and Punit and Imran were totally down to earth,” he recalls.

As of now Tiwari is busy reading more scripts,and keeping his fingers crossed till the film’s release on July 2.
