K K Sharma,Chandigarh Administrator,laid the foundation stones of two Government High Schools at village Dhanas,on Tuesday,in the presence of Education Secretary V K Singh,Chairman,Chandigarh Housing Board Satya Gopal and DPI (S) Kamlesh Kumar.
The schools,being constructed at an estimate cost of Rs 11.5 crore and Rs 11.8 crore respectively,aim to provide for the needs of school-going children of allottees of flats under the slum rehabilitation scheme of the Chandigarh Administration.
The schools will have 40 classrooms each,infrastructure like biology,physics and general science laboratories,a library and a music room.
The construction will be undertaken in a closely-supervised manner,ensuring all measures for work site safety are implemented. Apart from this,the education department has proposed undertaking other projects simultaneously such as a parking area with the concept of green paver block,installation of rooftop solar photo-voltaic power plant,rain water harvesting and a facility for basketball and volleyball courts.
Two schools,Government Senior Secondary School and Government Model High School are already functional in Dhanas.
These schools,presently operating in a single shift with 37 classrooms available,will soon run in double shifts.
Approximately 1,800 children,till the primary level,are expected to be adjusted in these schools. Also,two more sites have been ear-marked for the construction of a primary and a high school,the construction for which will begin at an appropriate time.
