A five-year-old boy,who saved his fathers life in a road accident that claimed the life of his mother,brother and grandmother,will be honoured with the Himachal Shree Vijay Avtar Singh Memorial Bravery Award by Himotkarsh Sahitya Sansktriti and Jankalyan Parishad. The award will be given to Madhur Negi on February 4 at Una by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
On the night of November 14,when Madhur was travelling with his parents,brother and grandmother on Narkanda-Baghi-Khadrala road in Narkanda area of Shimla,their Maruti car rolled down the gorge amid dense fog and heavy rain around 8.45 pm.
The boy,however,managed to climb up the difficult trek in complete darkness to reach the road and seek help from a vehicle.
Incidentally,the occupants of the car were carrying a deceased to the village and on spotting a kid drenched in rain in the middle of the forest at night,they were struck with fear.
At first,they feared I was a ghost since they were carrying a dead body, Madhur said.
Later,they got down and along with Madhur tried to spot the Maruti car,but failed. They took him to the nearest police post about 1.5 km away and by the time he could manage help,his mother Neeraj Negi,brother Sheshav and grandmother Shiv Dasi had died.
His father Krishan Negi,principal of a senior secondary school in Ratnari Narkanda,was still alive and rushed to the hospital.
