For the first time, offices asked to consider closing down in Chandigarh

The order by District Magistrate who is also the Chairman of District Disaster Management authority said, “All the public and private institutions/offices located in Chandigarh are advised to take decision regarding closing of their offices considering the rainfall forecast and waterlogging situation.”

“Health Department is advised to make necessary arrangements for medical treatment of the persons affected with electrocution and drowning cases,” it added.

The order further said that taking into consideration the heavy rainfall and water logging, “general public is advised not to venture into water bodies like lakes, ponds, etc. during monsoon season till 01.10.2023 to avoid any untoward incident linked to drowning etc.”

Civic authorities like Municipal Corporation and Engineering Department are advised to immediately remove the fallen trees from roads, streets and public pathways. They are also advised to repair the caved in roads immediately and Chandigarh Traffic Police is advised to cordon-off such areas to avoid any accident, the order said.

The Chandigarh Traffic Police is also advised to ensure that waterlogged underpasses and subways are properly cordoned-off and traffic is diverted on alternate routes.

All public and private institutions/offices have also been directed to inspect their building premises to detect likely points of electrocution due to the dampness in office buildings and waterlogging in their premises.
