For those who think fashion can only be frivolous, need to meet Ashvinder Singh. The CEO of Uni Style Image (USI) has been hard at work in his attempts at saving the world.

From environment-friendly products to tie-ups with the UN,here’s a CEO who is doing all he can to save the planet, albeit in style!

For those who think fashion can only be frivolous, need to meet Ashvinder Singh. The CEO of Uni Style Image (USI) has been hard at work in his attempts at saving the world. “The big steps apart,it’s the little moves that make all the difference,” mentions the CEO. For nearly two decades now,Uni Style Image has been offering a range of casual and street clothing for both men and women. While as a brand it has progressed to include accessories,as a concept it has evolved tremendously. “At USI we are looking out for the future generations by supporting environment conservation projects and are taking our own steps for a sustainable future. Our designs are eco-friendly and developed on ergonomics. Since 98 per cent of our products are made from natural resources, they are biodegradable,” Singh explained at the re-launch of his store in Sector 17 this Wednesday.

In an aim to create awareness about various environmental issues,Singh’s put together a ‘USI Enviro Club’. “We have nearly 18,000 members who will work towards not just creating awareness about issues such as global warming and climate change but we will address these issues with meaningful interventions,” explained the CEO. On his part,he’s dedicated 50 per cent of the space on his eco-friendly paper bags (made from recycled paper and waste fabric) towards save the planet campaigns as well as 30 per cent of the T-shirt graphics are devoted to environmental messages. This season,Singh has also introduced a jewellery line made from recycled tin. “I am also working towards lessening our carbon footprint. And that’s why we don’t import from China, you’ll never have Italian marble in our stores,” mentions Singh who wants everyone to join him on his endeavours to do our bit for the nature. “It could be a simple step as change your light bulbs to LEDs,fixing a leaky tap or cycling your way around town,” he lists out ways to begin. Interestingly,he’s also joined hands with the United Nations in the global ‘Anti-Corruption’ campaign. “We organised street shows to spread the

message,”

Given his creative streak,Singh’s all-new Fall Winter collection makes the most of earthy tones and some innovative design elements. “Unlike earlier when we would list trends today it’s the other way around. Customers come in and give us their inputs. In Chandigarh the fashion scene is really very well evolved,” mentions Singh who has designed jeans with mobile pockets, loops for keys and sunglasses too. “New this season are arm warmers, knit mufflers, slim canvas belts, long knit sweaters and sports wear,” informs Ashvinder as he shows us sweatshirts with cuffs that also double up as gloves. Clearly,

thinking out of the box comes

easy to him!
