Farmers Protest Highlights: Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher says that WTO policy is "very bad for farmers"; says government should take India out of the organisation

Farmers Protest Highlights: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) is set to launch a nationwide tractor procession on highways on Monday to reiterate their demands for a Minimum Support Price for all crops and debt waiver for farmers.” Speaking ahead of the tractor procession, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the World Trade Organisation (WTO) policy is “very bad for farmers.” “The Government should take India out of the WTO,” he was quoted saying by news agency ANI. 

Meanwhile, farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Tikait and BKU Lok Shakti will hold a tractor procession Noida to Delhi on Monday. “Our tractors would move towards Delhi from all directions till the Ghazipur border. We will not go into Delhi but park our tractors on the highways at the border. The government has time and it should negotiate with the farmers’ committee (the SKM (Non-Political) team interacting with the Union Ministers),” he was quoted saying by PTI.

Farmer leaders on Sunday hit out at the Haryana Police over the injuries suffered by Pritpal Singh, a farmer who suffered injuries during the ongoing protest at the Khanauri border. Farmer leader Baldev Singh Sirsa said that Singh was doing “langar seva” at the border when he was allegedly dragged by the policemen. “He was dragged from his tractor trolley, thrashed and later admitted to a hospital in Rohtak. But we got him shifted to PGIMER at Chandigarh,” he said. Meanwhile, the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march has been put on hold till February 29.
