Fake e-mails promise Green Cards

The senders of such mails ask for a payment of $ 819,as Visa processing fee,which needs to be paid through a bank account in the form of a bank draft.

The Cyber Cell of the Chandigarh Police is receiving numerous complaints,wherein people have fallen prey to the cyber frauds by paying such amounts to the fake senders. “Such frauds have become very common. Since it is the internet age,most of the literate class is connected to the web. Such mails are reaching almost everybody who has an email account. The best precaution is not to take note of such mails and just discard them. The moment,you start responding to such mails,the fraudsters trap you and extract money by giving fake allurements,” said Inspector Neeraj Sarna,Incharge,Chandigarh Police Cyber Cell.

The fake mails read: “Although the Diversity Visa participation was free,the law and regulations require every diversity visa winner to pay a visa processing fee of $ 819 . The Diversity Visa (Green Card) is guaranteed upon receiving the payment. This is the only fee a winner needs to pay throughout the entire relocation process. Accompanying family members (wife/husband,fiancee,brothers,sisters,children,cousins) may be included in the program and their visas will be provided at the same time with yours so you can travel/move together in the same time. However the fees must be paid per person and each member (e.g wife,brother,parents,children,cousin) must pay $ 819. There is no discount for children.”

It goes on to say: “Within 72 hours,you will receive a confirmation via email with your Case Number/Confirmation Number and exact date and time (around 2 days) of the final interview. Upon successful interview you will receive your documents and travel information to move in the United States. Under no circumstances your visa status won’t be affected by the interview.”

“There are around 10-15 complaint,pertaining to cyber frauds,every month. Ironically,all the alleged victims are well-educated persons,who fall prey either to get easy money,or permanent residencies abroad. Such attitude,adopted by people,make them more gullible to such frauds,” Inspector Sarna added.
