Ensure free and fair elections: HC

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday directed Punjab chief secretary,director general of police and the chief commissioner of Gurdwara Elections to ensure that the SGPC polls are “conducted in a fair and free manner”.

A division bench comprising Justice Permod Kohli and Justice Ritu Bahri also directed the authorities to ensure there is no “intimidation of the voters”.

The Bench also allowed videography outside the polling booths at the expense of the candidates.

The directions were passed on a bunch of three petitions by Inderjit Singh,Gurbaksh Singh and Sukhjit Singh. In their petitions filed against the Union of India the petitioners had sought directions for deployment of Central Reserve Force.
