Alert students living as paying guests in Sector 15 nabbed a thief who was later handed over to the police on Sunday morning. Rajat Dahiya,a student,had been stealing from the paying guests of Sector 15 and had managed to enter into the same residence twice in the last four days for this purpose.
Dahiya,who is pursuing a diploma in engineering from Tangori,along with another person entered into the residence where another person,Niraj Rattan has been living as a paying guest. As Dahiya and his accomplice were trying to steal Rattans wallet,Rattan woke up,saw him and raised an alarm. Following this,the two thieves tried to flee but Dahiya was nabbed by the other paying guests,while his accomplice managed to escape.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had stolen a laptop,cash worth Rs 8,000 and some documents belonging to Anil Nain,who is also a paying guest at the same residence. His laptop was stolen from the residence on April 11 and a complaint was made for the same. The police has recovered the laptop from Dahiya.
We suspect that the accused have been involved in more thefts which had taken place in Sector 15. We are investigating into the matter. The court has granted two days of police custody to Rajat Dahiya, said Inspector SHO,Gurmukh Singh.
He also added that the students who are living as paying guests in that residence had been on the alert since the laptop and documents were stolen.
