Acalypha is one of the shrubs that has not been explored much by gardeners. It forms a very good low hedge if planted in corners that receive less sunlight. The self-twisting and saw-toothed leaves are variegated and unique. There is another variant of the acalypha species that has coppery leaves. However,the one with red leaves gives the best display when planted at a spot that receives full sun. Acalypha plants can also be grown in pots but they are at their best when planted in a group in beds. The plant multiplies easily by way of cuttings.

I could not plant litchi in my garden this season as I was away. Can I still plant it?

The best time to put these plants is during December and January,since these plants are dormant at that time. Procure these plants from the nurseries of the Punjab Agriculture University.

Some of the bunches on my mango trees are turning black. What does this mean? What should I do to correct this?

The bunches are malformed shoots that need removal,along with a part of the healthy twig. These should then be destroyed by burying or burning.

The pink petals from my mussaenda shrub are falling. What is the reason and how can I stop it?

Don’t worry; it’s natural for the mussaenda to shed leaves as the weather takes a cool turn. All the leaves on the plant will shed till November-December and reappear in February-March.
