Down To Earth

Some of the plants that were insignificant earlier now command a very good price.

Some of the plants that were insignificant earlier now command a very good price. The accompanying picture is of euphorbia. Once upon a time the plant was a little known succulent and was only seen in the collection of cactus and succulent lovers. However, with hybridization, now a wide range of species of the plant is available. While it only had a pair of small red flowers at the terminal of trailing twigs earlier, now one of its varieties has blooms appearing in bunches. These are available in various colours. The original form was also known as ‘Crown of Thorns’,supposedly worn by Jesus Christ before crucification.

In some of the twigs in the mango plant the terminals have died and the leaves have also turned black. What could be the reason? How can I correct the fault?
Kamla,Chandigarh

This seems to be an injury caused by winter. Cut the dead and black twigs, along with some of healthy twigs. Apply blitox slurry at the cut ends. Add a few drops of water in blitox powder, which is easily available in pesticide shops.
