After watching her compatriot Sumana Roy win titles on the first-two days of the tournament,Dev Saini of New Public School,Sector 18,took inspiration from her and claimed two titles in the 2nd Chandigarh State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament jointly organised by New Public School and Rotary Chandigarh Central at the Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall on Sunday. Kalyani of Manav Mangal School,Sector 21,also took home two titles.

Pitted against Mayank Kapoor of DAV Public School,Sector 8,Saini made a bad start as he lost the first game 7-11. However,he picked his game from there and recorded wins in the next four games and eventually won the men’s singles title defeating Mayank 7-11,11-9,11-7,11-8,11-4 in the final. He had earlier defeated Dipanjan 11-6,11-7,11-8,11-8 to lift the youth boys’ title.

Meanwhile,Kalyani played confidently to pick the women’s singles title by defeating Nadia Saini of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women,Sector 26,in a well-contested final by 11-2,7-11,14-12,11-8,11-2. Then,in the junior girls’ final,she outplayed Garima Goyal of Bhavan Vidyalaya,Sector 27,by a margin of 6-11,11-4,11-8,11-5,11-8 to claim the title. Nadia Saini clinched the youth girls’ title after defeating Kalyani 11-9,11-7,11-5,11-8.

Mayank Kapoor of DAV -8 captured the junior boys’ singles title by defeating Aishwary Mahajan of Ajit Karam Singh International Public School 9-11,11-13,11-9,7-11,11-6,11-2,11-9.

Anuradha to officiate in Asian TT tourney
With an experience of more than 20 international matches,the youngest international referee of India,Anuradha Bansal of Chandigarh,will supervise matches in the 19th Asian Table Tennis Tournament to be held in Lucknow from November 16 to 22. The 27-year-old had supervised matches,including girls’ finals,in the Junior Pro Tours in Indore in March and September this year,the Junior Asian Table Tennis in Jaipur in July 2009 and the Junior Pro Tour in Pune last year. Anuradha,who runs a table tennis academy (Chandigarh Table Tennis Club) at Gurukul Global School,said,”I am getting international matches to supervise in domestic tours. My ambition is to supervise matches in international tournaments,including Olympics,abroad. I am systematically preparing to upgrade my knowledge through internet and other sources. I am also preparing for the ATU course to upgrade my status to Green Badge.” She is a White Offcial. Anuradha has represented Chandigarh in more than 20 national meets.
