It’s their second census, and boy did they leave us a li’l stumped with this one. Come to think of it,the findings can easily make their way on city’s wiki page,if it has one. According to http://www.ebay.in,a pretty famous online e-commerce marketplace,Chandigarh ranks tenth largest e-commerce hub in the country. That said, let’s pep it up with what eBay guys found out about the online shopping habits of city: Technology got the lion’s share of Chandigarh online shoppers’ wallets at 40 per cent of all transactions. Chuppies buy the most electric toothbrushes in India! Here’s another: Chandigarh sold the highest number of chandeliers in the country! When it comes to movie buffs,Chandigarh is the second highest buyer of Telegu movies after Hyderabad! Wow! What happened to Deol and Family? The next revelation is something we totally agree with, for last year has seen an increase in health-related activities and figure-conscious folks. So,this makes the city a high trader in cardio equipment, slimming belts, exercise mats and even fitness DVDs on eBay! Adding to the list of exclamation marks is another finding: Chandigarh is a photographer’s delight. The city sells everything a shutterbug needs from digi cameras, lens, filters to tripods and camcorders.

In addition to this, the website also zeroed in on a sector-wise trade map which revealed that Sector 44 folks collect coins from the Mughal and British Indian era. Sectors 37 and 41 make for the biggest movie buffs while Sector 36 is into buying books on finance, quizzing and education and Sector 44 prefers comic and cook books.

“Chandigarh did not feature in last year’s top ten,but this year has seen a quantum leap,” remarks Sharat Digumarti,Head Categories,eBay India,as he unveiled the eBay census guide which documents the key findings and trends in online buying and selling across Indians. “On a national scale, rural Indians are most active online shoppers. While technology dominates the Indian market, lifestyle leads in exports. And Indians are turning into great entrepreneurs focusing on profit buying,” adds Sharat. Talking about trade,Chandigarh’s ‘bought and sold’ category includes world coins,USB drives,Indian stamps (really big),Telegu movies and diamond rings in purchase section. “In sale,it’s British Indian coins,DVD discs,auto-styling accessories, home security systems and stamps,” Sharat moves on to exports which includes professional video equipment, natural and homeopathic remedies, chess game sets, books and cricket bats.

Well, there is more of it on the website, but we’ll leave you with this : in the export department,India’s sending quite a bunch of colourful items: sarees for starters, belly dancing apparel (double wow, considering the bellies here!) skirts,DVDs (no wonder they cry piracy) and salwar-suits. Log on for more.
