Panjab University (PU) Syndicate meeting held on Saturday ended soon after it started,as all the members of the syndicate walked out following the action-taken report on Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College for Women,Dasuya not being included in the agenda.
Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College for Women,Dasuya has long been under scanner for a case of sexual harassment on its campus. A committee was constituted by the syndicate to prepare an inquiry report about the case. As the inquiry report has already been accepted in principle by the syndicate in July, the members alleged that no action has been taken against the erring college.
However,Dr Singh stood his ground and walked out of the meeting, followed by all the other members of the syndicate. One of the members Dinesh Talwar said,All the members had been waiting for a long time for the matter to be included in the agenda so that the syndicate could implement the decisions taken by it in the earlier meetings. We were compelled to raise the objection, when it was not even included in Saturdays meeting.
We are answerable to all the teacher fraternity,so we ought to question the delay,he added.
Meanwhile,PU Registrar Professor A K Bhandari said the university is taking follow-up action on the Dasuya case. He said that a show cause notice was issued on September 3 to the president of the governing body and principal of the college, and that the college has been given 15 days time from the date of receipt of the Notice to provide the necessary justification.
