Its’ not every day that kids get to design their own comic characters and when they are taught just how,the results are truly engaging. After a month long workshop at Shivalik Public School,Sector 41 that conducted special classes on character designing, story boarding, game development, graphic novel, comic books and junior researcher, the participating school students displayed their works at a concluding exhibition. The workshop was organized by Orange Pumpkin,a special team of designers from National Institute of Design,Ahmedabad. According to Manipal Setia from Orange Pumpkin,These courses have been designed to explore the possibilities of enriching school education. The idea is to enhance storytelling activities and make it a creative subject for young students.
Among those who made the most of the workshop was 15-year-old Gurbaaz,a student of St Johns School,Sector 26. Usually we have drawing and the painting workshops but it was for the first time in India that I have attended a design workshop. It was a great learning experience as I prepared comic characters of my own and even designed slip books, remarked Gurbaaz. Also a part of the special workshop was 10-year-old Ramit who told us,I have learnt the technique of colour exploration by using oil pastels, dry pastels and paints. This workshop has been very fruitful as I learnt how to make characters properly. They taught us so well that I myself made Superman,Batman and Spiderman using glass colours as a medium.
