Cop riding bicycle killed after being hit by BMW

A policeman riding a bicycle was killed after being hit reportedly by a speeding car (BMW) near the Chandigarh Police Headquarters in Sector 9, Chandigarh, on Sunday evening, The accused, identified as Ishan Shanker Roy (26), a resident of Sector 26, Panchkula, has been arrested in the case.
Sources said that deployed in UT police’s communication wing, Anand Dev, a constable, worked as a wireless operator. Dev, 35, was crossing the road via the Zebra crossing near the Sector 9/10 traffic signal around 6.50 pm, when the accident took place.
Police said that the accused was performing stunts in a BMW car. Due to his dangerous and high-speed driving, the vehicle collided with the bicycle of Dev, who was on his way to duty. The constable succumbed to his injuries at the spot.
Following the incident, the driver along with the vehicle fled away from the spot. A case was registered on Monday at police station in Sector 3, Chandigarh, under sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
After a thorough site inspection, mechanical examination of the vehicle, and analysis of the CCTV footage, additional charges under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the BNS were added to the case.
