Contractual teachers demand regular posts,arrears

As many as 200 teachers working on contract with the Education Department held a protest against the delay in regularising their posts at Masjid Ground in Sector 20 on Tuesday.

As many as 200 teachers working on contract with the Education Department held a protest against the delay in regularising their posts at Masjid Ground in Sector 20 on Tuesday.

The teachers alleged that even after working on contract for more than a decade, the department has not given any assurance to them whether they will be regularised or not.

They added that instead of regularising them, the department has advertised new posts. “Around 600 posts of teachers are lying vacant in various schools. The department, however, chose to ignore our experience and go for fresh recruitments,” said Rajesh Kumar,a teacher.

The protestors demanded that they should be employed against the vacant posts and if there are any posts left vacant after this, only then it should be advertised for fresh recruits.

Claiming that they rightfully deserved to be regular teachers, they also alleged anomalies in the salary they received.

“We have not received any arrears which is our due. The department should release our next salary with the pending arrears,” said Meena, another teacher.
