Congress should not dissuade PM from coming to state: CM

Parkash Singh Badal said that the state Congress leadership should refrain from the “cheap tactics” of “dissuading” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from visiting Punjab next month.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday said that the state Congress leadership should refrain from the “cheap tactics” of “dissuading” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from visiting Punjab next month.

Singh is at the helm of affairs as Prime Minister of the country, and therefore, his jurisdiction is not merely restricted to any political party but much beyond that encompassing the entire nation,Badal said.

“It was very unfortunate that the Congress leaders of state led by PPCC president Amarinder Singh were resorting to cheap tactics to prevent the Prime Minister from coming to the state for inaugurating the ambitious projects like Khalsa Heritage Complex at Anandpur Sahib and laying the foundation stone of terminal at Mohali International Airport,” Badal alleged after laying foundation of Advanced Cancer Diagnostic,Treatment and Research Center here. Flanked by his son and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and daughter-in-law and Lok Sabha MP from Bathinda Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the Chief Minister claimed these leaders were “virtually bamboozled” by the spectacular development in the state during SAD-BJP rule and were, therefore, indulging in such “cheap tactics” to mount pressure on Singh to abandon his proposed visit.

He said it was ironical that SAD was extending a red carpet welcome to the Prime Minister in the state whereas his own party leaders were opposing it tooth and nail, which clearly reflected the “brewing frustration” among the Congress leadership that was “bereft” of any political agenda in the upcoming state elections.

Badal said he had personally invited Singh and there was no political motive behind it.

Earlier addressing the gathering at the venue, the CM said the state was taking a big leap forward in tackling cancer. He said that the cancer centre would have state of the art facilities and would be constructed at the cost of Rs 70 crore.
