Wkith religious groups opposing the Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s announcement to confer the ‘Panth Ratan Fakhar-e-quam’ award on Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the SAD hit back on Sunday by stating that the “so-called opposition” by the panthic parties,“is nothing less than a challenge to the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib”.

In a statement released from the party head office here, party secretary and spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the chief minister has taken historic decisions and has played a pivotal role in establishing all the four memorials including Virasat E Khalsa at Anandpur Sahib,Chotta Gallughara in Kahnuwan in Gurdaspur,Vadda Ghallughara at Kup Rahira in Sangrur and memorial of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Chapparchiri in Mohali district.

Welcoming the decision,Cheema said Badal has made an unparalleled contribution and service to the Khalsa Panth,Punjab,Punjabi and Punjabiat. “It is unmatched in the history of the state. These persons are puppets in the hands of the Congress party who have always tried to degenerate Sri Akal Takht Sahib which is a source of great inspiration to the Sikh community”. He added that their opposition to the decision of Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib is a direct attack on the principles of Gurmaryada and Sikhism. “By doing so these leaders are trying to appease the Congress party,” Cheema said.

The SAD spokesman asked the leaders what their contribution was to the Sikh cause and in what capacity they were issuing statement challenging the supreme authority of the Khalsa panth. “Statements opposing the decision are coming from those parties which have unsuccessfully contested the SGPC elections with the direct support of the Congress party. The Congress is frustrated these days because of poor response to its mass contact programmes,it has now directed these leaders to launch a fresh tirade against the SAD-BJP government as the strategies of the Congress have failed during the last year,” Cheema said.
