The selection of chairpersons and vice-chairpersons to the sub-committees of the Municipal Corporation will be done unanimously with the Congress and BJP having reached a consensus over the distribution of the committees. A meeting of the Congress and BJP councillors along with the nominated councillors was held. It was decided that BJP councillors would be made chairpersons of three committees and vice-chairpersons of four. For four sub-committees it will be the Congress and nominated councillors who will be the chairpersons. The BJP councillors filed nominations for three sub-committees. Desh Raj Gupta filed nomination for the Apni Mandi committee,Rajesh Gupta for electricity and Davesh Moudgil for enforcement committee. Meanwhile,Congress councillors filed nominations for three sub-committees. These included H C Kalyan for the Sanitation Committee,Gurbax Rawat for city beautification and Sheela Phool Singh for slum development. Nominated councillor R K Kohli filed nominations for the Fire and Emergency Services Committee. For two sub-committees,those of arts,culture and sports as well as women empowerment,no nomination was filed. The elections are scheduled for June 24. The elections for chairpersons for three sub-committees was done earlier. The BJP councillors did not have majority in most of the sub-committees that have been constituted. While six months of the year have passed,the process of making the committees functional is still going on as the notification was delayed. Last year the BJP councillors had tendered resignation from the sub-committees complaining of being under represented. It was obly later when they were made chairpersons of four committees that they joined these. Also,the Municipal Corporation has been unable to get committees for the departments of primary health and primary education three years after the departments were transferred from the Administration.
