This Monday will see Jaspreet wear a pristine white suit. “The only element of colour will be my bangles,” she says,smiling. The all-white dress code has obvious resonances in Bollywood movie history. It invokes images of a white kurta-clad Amitabh Bachchan serenading a sensuous Rekha,draped in a white churidaar suit,singing Rang Barse in Silsila— a picturisation that has inspired Holi celebrations across the country for decades. It is the first image that comes to Avnish Mehrotra’s mind when he thinks of Holi and all its flavours. “White is the perfect canvas for the multiple hues to stand out,” says the city-based animator who is all set to slip into an all-white ensemble himself. “As always,I will wear white kurta-pyjama,” says Mehrotra.

Popular and effervescent radio jockey Meenakshi has her Holi clothes planned out as well. “My friends often joke on how dress up for Holi but that is the way I am,” says the MY FM RJ. This time,she went shopping at the local khadi store,buying herself a kurta that she will team up with a flowing white chiffon dupatta and a white churidaar to match. “We choose to wear new clothes for most festivals,so why not for Holi,” she reasons. “Most of us have more than one white kurta,a summer staple,in our wardrobe. I recommend that we make the most of them,” she says.

Dr Prakash Bhatia and his wife Rashmi—a doctor couple from Panchkula—will also be dressing up in white. “This year,Holi coincides with our wedding anniversary,” Rashmi said. “It is a theme party and we are asking all our friends to dress up in white,” her husband pitches in. White or not,we hope Holi remains as colourful as ever.
