Lawyers representing Chandigarh and Punjab during the hearing of a PIL read out the article wherein the author had claimed that the number of cars had a direct relation with the number of divorces in the urban sector.

Strange co-relations

Cars and marriages are made in heaven. This is the title of an article written by a social activist. Struck by the “strange” title, lawyers representing Chandigarh and Punjab during the hearing of a PIL pertaining launch of eco cabs in Punjab and Haryana, read out the article wherein the author had claimed that the number of cars had a direct relation with the number of divorces in the urban sector.

To this,a Judge, speaking for the division bench remarked “I think we must study the co-relation between divorces and

mobile phones”.

To this, the amicus curiae in the case immediately pointed out the adverse effect mobile phones have in a matrimonial

relationship.

We do not care for you

Chandigarh Police is either suffering from memory loss or do not trust even those people that they had lauded in the past. This was evident when Zulfikar Ahmed, president of Theatre Age – an NGO in Sector 24 that works for the upliftment of slum children — who was shooed away by the same Chandigarh Police that had earlier lauded his efforts by issuing a certificate which is still hanging in Zulfikar’s office.

Zulfikar had reached the police station on learning that five children from Sector 25 were rounded up by the police at four in the morning for verification. Three of them had board exams the same morning.

When Zulfikar turned up at the police station,he was not only treated badly but also shooed away, thus oblivious of the fact that he was the same person who they had earlier issued a certificate.

The dabang officer

An HCS officer in the UT Administration who is known as ‘dabang’ because of his dressing style recently proved how befitting is the name given to him. Who else would have the courage to write a letter to the UT Adviser to the Administrator against his own newly-appointed boss,Secretary IT Prerna Puri?

The rationale given by our local hero was that there was no space in the department to set up the office for the new Secretary.

It is learnt that when Prerna Puri was told about this letter written by him,she could not believe it and said it must have been a misunderstanding on somebody’s part,“He could not have written this letter,” she said. Whether he is able to live up to his Bollywood name in the future remains to be seen.

As Harjinder was trying to make a point in the House, the Mayor who was chairing the meeting was talking to an official sitting next to her.

At this,Harjinder reprimanded the Mayor stating that no gossiping was allowed in the House even on the chair.

The Mayor retaliated by saying,“Are you scolding me?” While the issue was resolved there with the intervention of the councillors, the Mayor is reportedly still simmering with anger over the incident.

Realising potential

While the entire hostel was panic-striken last week when a man had entered into one of the Panjab University girls’ hostels in the middle of the night, the authorities’ expectations from the girls appear to be higher.

One of the Panjab University officials suggested that more than ringing up the police,it is the total strength of the girls in Panjab University hostels which could have helped in throwing the man out of the hostel and handing him over to the University security officials.
