HS keen to learn
The newly appointed officiating home secretary in the UT Administration seems to be too keen on learning the nuances of running the home department. On the very next day, after the outgoing Home Secretary Ram Niwas, relinquished charge, the new incumbent,Satya Gopal, who is otherwise the Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board, spent the whole day in the office of the home secretary to get himself acquainted of the new additional responsibility. So much so that he called all the officials of the UT Administration for a meeting in his office at the UT Secretariat for most part of the day. Nevertheless while he is enjoying his stint as the temporary HS,those working at the CHB are enjoying his absence. Classic case of when the cat is away, mice has a field day.
Let the tower sink in
Each time his client,Captain Amarinder Singh, was thrown an uncomfortable question during cross examination in an election petition, his counsel, senior lawyer,M L Saggar got up from his seat to come to Amarinder’s rescue. This triggered an unwarranted exchange of remarks between Saggar and Satya Pal Jain, the lawyer throwing questions at Amarinder. At a towering six feet three inches,Saggar was requested to “sink in” his chair by Justice Rajive Bhalla to diffuse the situation. Let your towering presence sink in Mr Saggar, said Justice Rajive Bhalla smilingly.
Now it’s gates’ fury
After the theft of high end car Porsche from Sector 7,the security gates were installed in various Sectors of Panchkula. Though at present these gates remain open for the whole night, but debate has already started among the residents as to when these gates should be closed during the night hours. While some suggest that all the gates, except one should be closed by 11pm,some plead that the gates should close at 10 pm. In days ahead it will be a tough task for the residents to make a unanimous decision about the timings for the closure of these gates.
I am still new
While it has been over seven months the mission coordinator of Chandigarh unit of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) society has joined in,his only answer to people’s queries relating SSA still remains – “I am new to the place. I am not in a position to answer it now.” His answer remains the same even to his subordinates. On top of this,he often forgets the names of the junior colleagues, addressing them with different names every time.
The uninvited guest
Its the frequent recurrence of the uninvited guest-snakes-at the faculty houses and even some departments that is ‘threatening’ the teaching fraternity and students at the Panjab University campus these days. Some teachers at whose allotted houses these are spotted too often in the last one month have even gone to the extent of keeping them away through havans and puja while some are seen consulting their colleagues from science departments and getting tips on how to avoid them. So far, nothing seems to help them.
Cong questions Mayor
During the recent meeting of the General House of the Municipal Corporation,Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh seemed to be getting more support from the Opposition councillors than his own. This was reflected in a couple of decisions that he took where the Opposition councillors applauded, while the Congress councillors questioned raised questions. It appeared to be role reversal of sorts in the civic body.
