Clearly upset over the procrastination on part of the Municipal Corporation when it comes to dealing with agenda items,a councillor stated that the MC was merely like a dog chasing its tail. Crudeness of the analogy apart,there is something patently wrong about the MC failing to accomplish most of its tasks. Be it the garbage plant,dog bye laws,parking allotments,almost everything is mired by delays and needless controversies.

Waterloo
The violence witnessed at DAV College in Sector 10 is deeply regrettable and reprehensible. Whether action taken by the college principal was strict enough to deter any such instance in future is debatable,but he surely is drawing some interesting comparisons. Some of his predecessors feel that his strong ‘action’ is akin to those taken by Napoleon Bonaparte. The comparison is pronounced as our principal is short in height just like the Little Corporeal. We just hope that his action turns out tobe the Waterloo of the violent elements in student politics.

Begging for change
The Delhi government has decided to remove all the beggars from the streets of the Capital in view of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. The efficacy of such a sweeping announcement remains suspect,but the counterparts of Delhi’s mendicants in Chandigarh are becoming all the more obnoxious. There are some markets,especially in Sectors 8 and 35,where one cannot roam without being accosted by these beggars. They chase you till the car and if they notice you owning a hatchback,their pestering includes a wish that you get bigger cars !

Vanishing act
It took a split second for a Sub-Inspector of UT police to vanish from court after he was attacked by the senior standing counsel,Anupam Gupta for scuttling the investigation of the Nari Niketan rape case. Pointing to the S-I in the court,Gupta told court that he was deliberately mentioning the dubious role of the S-I in the case. Within a second after his role was brought to light,the S-I disappeared from the scene.

Grassroot cause
Fresh from his victory in Jalalabad,Akali Dal President and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is spending a lot of time interacting with party workers all over the state. When in Chandigarh,he plans his daily schedule in such a manner that he spends at least three hours with the party workers. Party seniors have welcomed this gesture of the Badal junior.

Prescient CM
When the opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) first announced its electoral alliance with the BJP,Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda jokingly said it was not a ‘gathbandhan’ but lathbandhan.

In retrospect the Chief Minister looks amazingly prescient,considering the ephemeral duration of this partnership. In fact,Hooda had used the same term for the coalition between the BSP and Janhit Congress and there too he has been proved right. His supporters would hope that his political instinct which made him advance the assembly elections is correct this time too.
