CN & Heard

There is a buzz in the High Court about Justice Nirmal Yadav joining back work.

Will she,won’t she?
There is a buzz in the High Court about Justice Nirmal Yadav joining back work. Her attending a Full Court meeting has set rumour mills going. While some say the fact that her room in the high court was cleaned recently is a ‘clinching evidence’ of her joining back, others cite the increasing appearances of her staff in the court as ‘supporting evidence’. No official word yet, though.

Hunger pangs
On Monday last,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was to address a press conference at Ludhiana’s Park Plaza. The conference was scheduled for around 2:30 pm,but the Special Protection Group (SPG) had combed the entire area and told the media that they should enter the hotel by 12:30. Two hours of waiting were exacerbated by SPG’s directive to the hotel authorities of not serving the lunch to scribes. The hunger of famished reporters had reached ravenous levels. Finally, after the press conference,Manish Tewari, the Congress MP contestant, sensed their discomfort and organised a meal. Perhaps he dreaded the pens of hungry (and angry) reporters.

Jinxed posting
Sandeep Khirwar, the Superintendent of Police of Panchkula, often felt that his tenure here was jinxed. There were abnormally large number of robberies during his tenure. When he was transferred, the government would have hoped that the situation improved. But the jinx continues even after the appointment of his successor- AS Dhillon. The recent bank robbery at SBI branch was the latest in the chain of egregious crimes in the district.

Changing loyalties
In the run up to elections,a lot of ardent supporters of BJP had hoisted the saffron-green flag of their party on the top of their houses. But shortly after the declaration of victory of Congress candidate Pawan Bansal, many of these flags were quickly replaced by those of Congress. Nothing succeeds like success, goes the cliche.

Bogus voting
It was raining discounts for those who had cast their vote on May 13 in the city. Though the poll percentage did witness a crest,a lot of lazy non-voters turned up at the stores to get discounts, with signs made by permanent markers as proof of having woken up (remember the Jaago Re campaign!). But one of them, who instead of permanent markers, used a basic black sketch pen,was caught by a salesman and the matter was referred to the shop-owner. The owner, rather than getting angry, gave the ‘phenomenon’ an ‘intellectual’ term —“Bogus voting of the consumerist age”. After a second the joke took to register in their minds, everyone laughed, including the red-in-the-face ‘culprit’.
