Punishment!
The revised lunch timings for employees of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association have not gone down well. The lunch break has been reduced by 15 minutes. While it was from 1 pm to 1:45 pm,now an order has been passed reducing it to 1:30 pm. Some are of the opinion that it has been done by the High Court Administration to ensure work is not affected while others believe it is punishment for the lackadaisical attitude of some employees.
Motive-ated
This was one fight, which the members of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana seemed to have entered just for the media. Rather than keeping the dispute to themselves, members of Bar Council were frantically calling the media to cover their fight. The actual motive of the so called fight was of course to malign the reputation of other lawyers of the Bar Council.
Attention required
It has been over six months that floodlights have been installed at the Sector 16 cricket stadium in Chandigarh, but they are still to be used. The Chandigarh engineering department seems to be taking too long to start using the lights. Had the floodlights been operational 3-4 months back, the stadium would have catered to the high-octane IPL matches featuring home team Kings XI Punjab. Any inquiries on the lights and everyone’s lips are sealed. One wonders what the fuss is all about as the Indian Cricket League (ICL) authorities had installed and started the floodlights at the Tau Devi Lal stadium in Panchkula within ten days and hosted the mega event successfully. The Chandigarh Administration should also fast track the process and make the stadium well-equipped.
Thanks to me!
As the Panjab Uninversity (PU) authorities decided to extend the last date for submissions of forms for admission to various departments, all the student parties were seen claiming credit for having persuaded the officials.
While these student leaders were nowhere to be seen until the authorities were in the process of finalising the extension,a day after the announcement was made, nearly all the parties were busy in sending across the communication to as many new students as possible. Taking it further, each of them cited the challenge they faced in convincing the officials for the extension.
Cops on the prowl
With the Panjab University (PU) reviving the anti-ragging guidelines ahead of the new academic session, officials have ensured that the city police take rounds of the campus everyday. With the members of the committee maintaining that the police will help in ensuring discipline, especially in hostels,a senior official pointed out the real reason for it. Like the authorities, the students have also,by now, realised that the guards in PU are of not much help when it comes to controlling the students in any way. That is why,the city police had to be roped in to ensure necessary control, said the official.
Speechless doctors!
Even as the whole country is going gaga over the Aamirs show Satyamave Jayate,in which, the actor takes up burning social issues, but as doctors of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research found out, celebrities will remain celebrities even if its a great cause. Authorities at PGIMER have been endlessly attempting to rope in celebrities to endorse their organ-donation programme. They reportedly approached actors Aamir Khan,Priyanka Chopra and many others to endorse the cause. Doctors say that to their utter shock, the same stars who on television speak about social causes, asked for lakhs of rupees to lend their names for the cause of organ donation. The hefty demands left the PGI doctors speechless.
Wedding is over
Doctors, faculty members, students and staff of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research have been working tirelessly for the recently held golden jubilee celebrations for the past many months. Doctors who were in the organising committee heaved a sigh of relief when everything went well: from receiving guests to organising the main event. One of the doctors quipped,Its like the wedding is over and we have married our daughter off today.
Bhutia remains favourite
As former Indian football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia visited the Sector-17 stadium on Saturday for a private initiative, trainees at the stadium surrounded their hero. Some offered him samosas while some got him home-made paranthas. Bhutia shook hands with as many as he could. Later, there was chaos as passer-bys also thronged the stadium to see the football hero.
