Mohammed Shayin awarded for performance in field of child welfare

The UT Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Shayin was awarded two Indira Gandhi Chakravarti gold medals for the year 2008-09 and 2009-10 for outstanding performance in the field of child welfare during the annual general meeting of the Haryana State Council for Child Welfare. Shayin also received four special souvenirs from the Haryana Governor for all round best performance as well as utilisation and collection of funds.

Pedestrian killed in road accident

A pedestrian was run over by a four wheeler on Wednesday near Mela Ground in Sector 34. A complaint was filed by a resident of Block K,Colony No 5. Cchildren playing in the ground saw an unknown vehicle hitting a pedestrian at Wednesday noon. Thereafter,Sukh Ram,who runs a roadside tea stall,called the police and filed a complaint. “By inspecting the spot and looking at the tyre marks on the road,it seems that it was a four wheeler that caused the death of the unidentified person,” said Diwan Singh,SHO Sector 34.

Rotary Club launches anti-accident drive

Panchkula Police Commissioner Rajbir Deswal while launching a drive of affixing reflectors on heavy,medium and light vehicles on Wednesday said,it will save lives from road accidents. The function was organised by the Rotary Club Ambala on Ambala-Dehradun National Highway. He said that the Rotary International was doing appreciable social work to curb the increasing incidence of accidents on roads. The Rotary president Dr K.K. Jain said that 35000 reflectors would be fixed on the heavy,medium and light vehicles in Haryana,Punjab,Himachal Pradesh,Uttrakhand.

Rail traffic resume partially

The rail services between Sarsawa and Kalanaur partially resumed on Wednesday with trail runs on single tracks. The normal traffic will resume once the damage to track are completely repaired. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Gulshan Kumar informed that the restoration work is in progress and rail traffic would be normalized soon. Railway tracks were washed away due to flood in Yamuna.

Bag stolen at Sector 43 bus stand

Four unidentified persons snatched bag of a-52-year old Nepali resident while he was on his way to meet his daughter in Simla. According to police,the incident occurred when the victim was standing near the outer gate of Sector 43 bus stand Monday night. Seizing the opportunity,the four accused snatched the victim’s bag and fled. “The bag contained cash of Rs 8000,his mobile phone and ration card,” said Sub-Inspector Avatar Singh. No arrests have been made so far in the case.

Youth arrested for assault

Two youths were arrested by the police after a 24-year-old girl alleged that she was assaulted by them on Tuesday evening. The incident took place in the residential area of Sector 20-A. “We have arrested the accused and investigating further in the case,” said ASI Vijay Kumar.
