A huge variety of palms, a corner for cyclists, bridges and rivulets, huts and benches, eating joint — the newly inaugurated Garden of Palms in Sector 42 flaunts all this and more.
Launched by K K Sharma, Adviser to UT Administrator, on Thursday evening, the event also marked the release of a brochure on “Festivals of Chandigarh” complete with information on events organised by Chandigarh Tourism from time to time for the promotion of tourism.
“We are promoting Chandigarh as a city of greens and gardens,” added Kumar, mentioning Garden of Springs in Sector 53, Japanese Garden in Sector 31 and Garden of Conifer in Sector 52.
Tanvi Garg, Director Tourism, said that to facilitate the residents and the tourists, it had been decided to open a cafeteria shortly in the beautiful garden to be run by Society for Tourism & Entertainment Promotions in Chandigarh. This cafeteria would facilitate the visitors from ISBT, Sector 43, who would have refreshments besides availing of all information about tourist places from the Tourist Information Centre. She added that wi-fi facility would be provided in the garden.
M M Sabharwal, Director Public Relation, Sumit Kaur, Chief Architect, and senior officers of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation along with Mayor Harphul Chander Kalyan and ex-area councillor Bhupinder Singh Badheri were also present.
