City gets 58.8mm rainfall on first day

The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 32.6 degree Celsius, which is 3 degree below normal.

The much-awaited monsoon lashed the city on Wednesday, bringing 58.8mm rainfall and a  welcome dip in temperature.

There is prediction of low-intensity showers over the next few days. Heavy rain began last night and continued till Wednesday morning. Later, there were light showers.

The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 32.6 degree Celsius, which is 3 degree below normal.  The minimum temperature recorded was 22.7 degree Celsius, which is 2 degrees below normal. The Meterological Department said the rain  would continue this week.

“On Wednesday, there will be a heavy rainfall. However, later on the intensity will be low. In the next 24 hours, there will be low intensity rain-showers in the city. The temperature will remain low,” said Surender Paul, Director, Met. He added, “There will be low intensity rainfall for the next four days.”

 

PU: Electricity supply hit

Residents of few girls hostel situated in Panjab University (PU) campus bore the brunt of the prolonged electricity shortage. While, there was no electricity supply in areas of Sector 14 and Sector 15 from morning till late evening, the supply remained hit in Girls Hostel no. 3,4 and 6 till late night. Meanwhile, with the admission process going on in the campus, the parents and students were also a harried lot as the cyber cafe and photo studios in Sector-14 and Sector-15 market, failed to function without electricity. “We had to go to Sector-23 to get the photostat copies of certain documents which I need to attach with the admission forms. Moreover, the photo studio are also not functioning,” said Saurabh Mohan, who had come to submit the form for MA (Disaster Management) in the varsity.
