Local MP,Pawan Kumar Bansal on Friday paid tributes to Maharishi Valmiki,on Valmiki Jayanti. He was the chief guest at a function of Community Centre,Sector 56.

Local MP,Pawan Kumar Bansal on Friday paid tributes to Maharishi Valmiki,on Valmiki Jayanti. He was the chief guest at a function of Community Centre,Sector 56 to mark Maharishi Valmikis birth anniversary. Bansal urged people to follow the teachings of Valmiki. Felicitating achievers at another function at Sector 24,he said that the Maharishi worked throughout his life for the uplift of the downtrodden and oppressed. He also remembered B.R. Ambedkar on the occasion while advocating the need of equality. Bansal also spoke about the legislation brought by the UPA government,including the right to education,food security bill,the rural employment guarantee scheme and the RTI among others. Meanwhile,North India SC/ST Welfare Association President Prem Shammi while extending his wishes asked people to make sincere efforts in fighting distortions prevailing in the society and help fulfill Valmikis dreams of building a classless society.

On the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti,Bhartiya Valmiki Samaaj Morcha organised Shiksha Prachar Yatra at Indira colony on Friday. Young people from the city took part in a rally to make people aware of the importance of education in ones life. The rally was lead by Gurpreet Gabi and Chitranjan Chanchal. Several students and parents participated in the rally which covered nook and corner of Indira colony. They spoke about the right to education which is free to all. The organisers urged people to send there children to schools for a bright and prosperous future.

2 cheating cases registered

Two separate cases of cheating were registered with the Chandigarh police. In the first,a resident of Sector 21-A alleged that Om Prakash,Vijay Kumar and Sudarshan Kumar cheated him of Rs 10.5 lakh on the pretext of sending the complainant to Australia. Police said,the accused neither sent the victim abroad nor did they return his money. In the second case,a resident of Punjab alleged that Navroop Singh cheated him of Rs. 2.5 lakh on the pretext of booking tickets for the complainant to Toronto.
